YAOUNDÉ, Cameroon – Fresh from earning his World Fitness Federation (WFF) Professional Card, Cameroonian bodybuilder Desmond Chamako is already looking beyond his historic achievement. While his immediate goal is to compete against the world’s best professional athletes, the 31-year-old champion is equally committed to developing bodybuilding in Cameroon through his own gym, future digital projects, and mentorship of young athletes.
A Small Gym with Big Dreams

For Chamako, success is not only measured by medals but also by the ability to inspire the next generation.

After facing numerous challenges in accessing quality training facilities during the early years of his career, he decided to establish his own gym. Although still modest, the facility represents the first step toward a much bigger vision. »I’ve already started with my small local gym, » he says. « A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. By the grace of God, we will one day have a much bigger gym. »The gym serves not only as his personal training centre but also as a place where aspiring athletes can learn the discipline and consistency that have defined his career.
A Champion Focused on the Future

Now an international professional bodybuilder, Chamako will compete exclusively in professional events in the Classic Physique division.
His ambition is clear: to win more international titles and continue raising Cameroon’s flag on the global stage. »I want more trophies and more gold medals for Cameroon, » he says. « My mission now is to represent my country with pride at every professional competition. »Although bodybuilding is not part of the Olympic Games, Chamako has no plans to switch sports. Instead, he believes bodybuilding itself offers numerous opportunities through its different competitive categories. »If I ever decide to change divisions, I can simply move into another bodybuilding category with the guidance of my coach, » he explains.
Fitness Beyond Competition

Chamako believes bodybuilding should not be viewed solely as a competitive sport but also as a powerful tool for improving health.

According to him, regular exercise helps prevent many health problems and promotes physical and mental well-being. »Fitness is not just about looking good, » he says. « It is one of the best investments you can make in your health. »His advice to young people is straightforward: success in fitness—or in any field—comes through discipline and consistency rather than shortcuts. »There is no magic. If you stay disciplined and consistent, you will eventually achieve your goals. »Developing the Next GenerationBeyond his competitive career, Chamako has ambitious plans to expand the sport in Cameroon.
He hopes to mentor young athletes through his gym while also launching a fitness coaching application that will enable him to train clients remotely across Cameroon and abroad. In addition, he is preparing to launch his own sports nutrition and supplement brand, offering products and nutritional guidance tailored to athletes’ individual needs. His objective is to make professional coaching and quality supplements more accessible while encouraging healthier lifestyles.
A Journey Built on Discipline

Originally from Bamenda and a native of Pinyin in Santa Subdivision, Chamako holds a Diploma in Banking and Finance from the University of Bamenda. The socio-political crisis in the North West Region forced him to relocate to Yaoundé, where he continued building the career that has now earned him international recognition.
Looking back, he credits every achievement to two principles that have guided his life: discipline and consistency. »There are no shortcuts, » he says. « Everything I have achieved today is the result of staying disciplined and remaining consistent. »For Desmond Chamako, becoming a professional world-class bodybuilder is not the finish line—it is the beginning of a new mission to inspire, educate and build future champions from the gym floor to the international stage.
