Cameroun -Bodybuilding: Desmond Khan Awa and His Manager Call for Modernisation of Gyms

Beyond his achievements on the podium, Cameroonian bodybuilder Desmond Khan Awa, together with his manager, is championing a project to modernise fitness facilities in Cameroon. Following his participation in the African Bodybuilding Championship in Ghana, where he won four medals, the athlete hopes to use his experience to support young people, particularly in Bamenda, his hometown.

To turn this ambition into reality, he is seeking support from public authorities, the Cameroon Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (FECABOF), and private partners.

Transforming traditional gyms into modern, better-equipped facilities accessible to a wider range of users is the ambition behind the initiative led by Desmond Khan Awa and his manager. Aware of the significant investment required, they are seeking partners willing to contribute to the project’s implementation. For the promoters, the initiative goes beyond the development of bodybuilding alone. Modern fitness facilities could also serve athletes from other sporting disciplines, including football, basketball, handball, volleyball and athletics. Civil servants, public-sector employees and other citizens seeking to improve their physical fitness could also benefit from the proposed infrastructure. The project reflects a broader vision of promoting sports and well-being in Cameroon.

By improving training conditions and access to appropriate equipment, its promoters hope to enhance athletes’ performance, strengthen competition preparation and raise public awareness of the benefits of regular physical activity. However, turning this ambition into reality will require substantial financial resources, suitable equipment and institutional support. Desmond Khan Awa and his manager are therefore appealing to the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, FECABOF, as well as national and international investors and sponsors. Their objective is to establish partnerships capable of transforming the project into a fully operational modern fitness facility.

Although the project has national ambitions, Bamenda holds a special place in the athlete’s plans. Having grown up in the city, Desmond Khan Awa hopes to create better opportunities for young people who are passionate about sports.

According to the athlete, many young people want to participate in sporting activities but face a shortage of adequate infrastructure, equipment and suitable training spaces. Establishing a modern gym would help address some of these challenges by providing an environment conducive to training, coaching and talent development.Drawing on his experience in competitive bodybuilding, Desmond Khan Awa also wants to pass on his knowledge to young people who aspire to follow in his footsteps. His ambition is to help nurture a new generation of athletes capable of progressing to national and international competitions. For the athlete and his manager, the initiative represents an investment in human capital as much as a sporting project.

They are inviting public authorities, businesses and external partners to support the initiative and help facilitate its implementation.Through this project, the two promoters hope to make the modernisation of fitness facilities a means of developing the fitness industry, supporting young people and promoting public health. Securing financial and technical partners will be crucial to turning this vision into reality, with the ultimate goal of establishing a modern sports facility in Bamenda that could inspire similar initiatives across Cameroon.
