The championship brought together athletes from several African countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, Togo and Côte d’Ivoire. Faced with such strong competition, the Cameroonian athlete highlighted the challenge of preparing for the event without knowing the exact level of his opponents before competition day.Despite these demands, he says he approached the continental championship with confidence, relying on the work he had put in beforehand. By presenting his medals to the media, the athlete sought to highlight the dedication required to represent Cameroon on the international stage and celebrate the achievements of the national delegation.Discipline and Consistency: The Keys to SuccessBehind this impressive medal haul was a demanding physical training and nutrition programme.

Desmond Awa Kan explained that he underwent an intensive one-month training camp, with two daily sessions, six days a week, in the morning and evening. His diet consisted mainly of rice, chicken and vegetables, in keeping with the nutritional requirements of his sport. The athlete had also recently competed in the World Championship held in Cameroon. That competition helped him maintain his physical condition ahead of the trip to Ghana, reducing the time needed to prepare for the African Championship. For him, success in bodybuilding depends primarily on consistency. Beyond motivation, the ability to train regularly and maintain daily discipline is what enables athletes to develop their physiques and achieve their competitive goals.

The bodybuilder also praised the work of FECABOF, led by Achille Balemagna, as well as the support of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. He believes that the numerous international competitions in which Cameroonian athletes have participated in 2026 have helped strengthen their experience and improve their performances.According to figures he cited, Cameroonian bodybuilding has accumulated 147 medals in 2026, a record that, in his view, reflects the sport’s growing success on the international stage.

For the athlete, it is an opportunity to share his experience and contribute to the emergence of a new generation of bodybuilders capable of representing Cameroon at national and international competitions.

On the sporting front, he intends to continue improving and compete in more international events. His ambition is to once again represent Cameroon’s green, red and yellow national colours and bring home more gold medals. With four medals won in Ghana, Desmond Awa Kan is determined to build on his sporting achievements while preparing for the future. Combining the pursuit of new podium finishes with a commitment to mentoring young athletes, the champion hopes to make a lasting contribution to the development of bodybuilding in Cameroon.
